Knox Parole and Probation Differences
Parole and mandatory supervised release, or MSR, belong to the state-prison system. The IDOC Parole Division supervises people released from IDOC, while the Illinois Prisoner Review Board sets conditions and handles matters within its authority. Most modern determinate prison terms lead to MSR. Older indeterminate cases may involve discretionary parole.
Probation is a community sentence ordered in the Knox criminal case. It does not require a prior IDOC prison release. Conditional discharge is another court outcome with fewer active reporting features. Pretrial conditions apply before final disposition and are not probation. Read the actual docket or order instead of guessing from the fact that a person left jail.
| Question | Parole or MSR | Probation |
|---|---|---|
| Who creates it? | State sentence law and PRB authority | Knox criminal court |
| Who supervises? | IDOC Parole Division | Circuit probation system |
| Best public evidence | IDOC status and dates | Judici docket and court order |
| How it ends | Final discharge | Court completion or discharge entry |
| Violation path | PRB revocation process | Court warrant or revocation process |
Verify Knox Post-Release Supervision
Start with the custody and sentence source. A release from Knox County Jail after bond, dismissal, time served, or a county sentence does not by itself create state parole. A sentence to IDOC can lead to MSR after prison. A Knox judgment can impose probation without state imprisonment.
- Search the Knox Judici docket for the judgment, sentence, probation, conditional discharge, mittimus, or later revocation.
- If IDOC custody occurred, search the IDOC offender record by surname, IDOC number, or birth date.
- Match stable identity fields and read Offender Status with Last Paroled Date and projected dates.
- Call IDOC at 217-558-2200 when the public record does not confirm an assignment or recent movement.
- Use the Knox court or probation path for ordinary probation; do not use IDOC as a probation directory.
Keep the source and date of each result. A Last Paroled Date is historical evidence of an earlier exit, but present Offender Status may show a return to custody. A blank IDOC result is also limited because completed sentences can stop displaying.
Read Knox IDOC Supervision Fields
IDOC's labels must be read as a timeline. Offender Status tells where the person stands now. Last Paroled Date records a prior prison exit. Projected Parole Date is a forecast of the expected prison exit or MSR transition. Projected Discharge Date forecasts the later endpoint of sentence and supervision. Sentence Discharged? applies at the offense-count level, so one “YES” may not close the full record.
The PRB mandatory supervised release material describes the Board's role in conditions and related decisions. The official screenshot below supports that state process.

The PRB page explains the process, but the individual IDOC record remains the first public status check for a Knox-connected state release.
- Parole
- Conditional release used chiefly for legacy indeterminate cases and certain exceptions.
- MSR
- A required supervised term after many determinate state-prison sentences.
- Probation
- A court sentence served in the community under circuit supervision.
- Absconder
- A person alleged to have stopped required contact; a failed search does not prove this status.
- Final discharge
- The end of supervision and sentence, distinct from the earlier prison exit.
Knox Parole Conditions and Violations
Illinois parole and MSR conditions are governed by 730 ILCS 5/3-3-7. Conditions can include reporting to an IDOC agent and other terms set through the authorized process. Public summaries do not replace the person's release papers or current instructions.
An alleged violation can trigger preliminary and final review. The PRB revocation explanation identifies several possible results. The Board may find a violation yet return the person to release, with or without more conditions. It may find no violation and resume release after plan approval. It may revoke release, after which IDOC computes a new release date.
The revocation screenshot documents those possible results.

A result can explain why a person with an earlier Last Paroled Date now appears incarcerated. It should not be treated as a broad roster of supervised Knox residents.
Knox Probation Court Verification
Ordinary probation belongs to the Knox case. Read the chronological docket for judgment, sentence, term, later motions, violation allegations, warrants, revocation, satisfaction, or discharge. A charge label alone is not enough. The court order is the source for the legal status, while confidential case-management details may not appear publicly.
The Knox County Courthouse is at 200 S. Cherry St., Galesburg, IL 61401. The Illinois Courts directory lists 309-345-3847 and Monday through Friday hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Ask the Circuit Clerk for the docket or a specific certified order when exact wording matters. Do not ask the jail to interpret probation; the jail's own site says staff do not discuss court dispositions with general callers.
A final probation discharge may appear as an order or satisfaction entry. IDOC's Projected Discharge Date is unrelated to a circuit probation calculation. Each supervising system has its own endpoint and records.
No Knox Parole Agent Search
Research found no official public tool that maps a person's name to a Knox parole agent or Galesburg reporting unit. The safe route is the IDOC public record and 217-558-2200. PRB Operations can answer board-process questions at 217-782-7273 or prb.operations@illinois.gov, but it is not the supervising agent.

For probation, use the court record and the appropriate circuit probation route. A released individual or authorized party should rely on the reporting instructions supplied at release. Publishing a guessed office creates a risk of missed reporting and inaccurate status claims.
Note: An absent public agent directory is a documented local limit, not proof that state supervision does not exist.
Knox Supervision Final Discharge
Physical prison release and final discharge are not the same event. A person may live under parole or MSR after leaving an institution. PRB may consider early final discharge based on the governing factors and record. When granted, final discharge ends parole or MSR.
The captured PRB page shows the official early-discharge route.

A PRB discharge order or archived IDOC record is stronger proof of completion than the earlier Last Paroled Date.
For a public IDOC record that has vanished after completion, use the agency's Record Search contact route. Include full name, birth date, IDOC number, approximate reception and release years, facility if known, conviction county, and exact fields sought. The Knox County released inmates search explains how that archive fits with jail and court records.
Correct Knox Supervision Records
Knox publishes no special procedure for fixing a jail release code or recovering property after release. First obtain the underlying sheriff record, identify the exact disputed field, and submit documentary proof to the Sheriff's Office. Ask for the data dictionary when a code is unclear. A disagreement about the court outcome belongs with the Circuit Clerk and court process.
IDOC uses a separate correction route. Its FAQ says certified committing-court documentation can support correction after a qualifying reversal or remand. Pardons and commutations require the applicable PRB material and individual review. Send the relevant certified record and cover letter to IDOC Public Information rather than asking the search interface to change itself.
This distinction matters because sheriff, court, IDOC, and PRB each own different facts. Correct the record at its source. A screenshot can document what appeared on a date, but it is not itself authoritative proof that the underlying legal record should change.
