This is a private reference site, not a government office. We cannot confirm custody, release anyone, post bond, or retrieve an official booking record. Contact the office that holds the record.

Official Knox Record Contacts

The right contact depends on the custody system and the question. For a Knox County Jail status or the sheriff's booking and release record, contact the Knox County Sheriff. The live sheriff page is the best source for operating hours because county pages have shown a different formulation. Call before an in-person records visit.

Knox County Sheriff and Knox County Jail

The sheriff's contact form is not monitored continuously and warns against sending sensitive information without encryption. For an exact historical release time, manner, destination, or booking photograph, use the Sheriff's own FOIA route. Knox County's general FOIA instructions state that the Sheriff and Circuit Clerk receive requests for their own records.

Use the Circuit Clerk or Knox court docket for the legal event behind release, such as a pretrial order, dismissal, sentence, time served, probation, conditional discharge, or commitment to IDOC. The jail confirms custody and its own release record; the court explains the judicial disposition.

Official IDOC search landing page

IDOC is the correct route for a Knox court commitment received into state custody. It is not a county booking archive. For a completed state record that no longer appears publicly, use IDOC Contact Us and select “Record Search,” then provide the full name, birth date, approximate reception year, institution if known, conviction county, and relevant dates.

Choose from these routes based on the record sought:

  • For one released person and the sheriff-record request steps, begin with the Knox County release search.
  • For state parole, mandatory supervised release, or court probation distinctions, use parole and probation.
  • For a same-day window, use the 24-hour release list workflow. Knox County has no verified official browser feed.
  • For a future state date, review the projected release date. For an alert, use the VINELink check.
  • For a particular custody system, use the facility pages in the footer and contact the agency named in that person-specific record.
  • For a sentenced state prisoner, use IDOC's official locator or its public phone fallback.
  • For documented federal or immigration custody, use the official BOP or ICE locator rather than the county jail app.

Illinois VINE can also be reached at 866-566-8439 at any time for search and notification help. IDOC Victim Services lists 877-776-0755 on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central, with 866-277-7477 for after-hours notification issues. A VINE event is a notice from a supplying agency, not the official release ledger.

For immigration custody, the ICE Detention Reporting and Information Line is 888-351-4024 on weekdays, excluding holidays, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern. Use it only when a detainer or ICE transfer is documented. For federal custody, BOP applies only if the person entered its system; USMS and the federal court docket are often the correct routes for federal pretrial movement.
